King George's Medical University Students Club

SOUL CUSHIONS-
The group is an in-campus student initiative mentored by Professor Rishi Sethi in 2018, cardiologist from King George's Medical University, who is the driving force behind this initiative. It was created to provide a platform for expression of medical students tired by the gruesome curricular activities. It is the first initiative to provide an equal podium to everyone regardless of being a novice in the field of literature, photography, creative skills and performing arts. Soul Cushions is the first of its kind student body which organises healthcare innovative events and co-curricular activities avidly. Its purpose is to give voice to the unheard talent of the university without any fear of judgement or bias.

PAST EVENTS-

1. HACKATHON 2018- The first event of its kind organised in the university under the aegis of Soul Cushions. It brought together students from IIT-Kanpur and students and residents in KGMU to create innovative biomedical solutions to important problem statements pervasive in the medical field. Three of the working protocols being funded by IIT-K are being actively worked upon.

2. MEDLEY 2018 and 2019- Medley was initiated as a student-led, student based literary activity without any interference from the faculty and senior members . Seniors and juniors work in a symbiosis to provide the best lived-in experiences of students. We are here to listen. To ensure it's not stressful, it's created strictly as an activity and not a competition so that everyone can get a chance. Amateurs and first-time performers are appreciated and encouraged. Under the able leadership of Prof Rishi Sethi Sir, Medley 2018 and Medley 2019 was organised, completely supported and funded by him giving full creative freedom to all the members. It's a free- membership initiative, every year 3-5 students are selected as per their creative abilities and skills to be a part of the working group. All students can volunteer and work for it. The Event includes art and photography exhibition(Stills and Strokes) , poetries ( Ballet), Token Of Love for underappreciated creative works ( Mi Amor), Stories(Nostalgia), Skits , musical , dance activities and a miscellaneous arena for ghazals, khayals , KG Ted talk or simply anything your heart desires to speak of (Gibberish). It's a one- day saga which has achieved much appreciation from attendees.

MEDLIT SOCIETY

The MedLit Society of King George’s Medical University is a student-only society, created in 2020, to fill the void created by lack of sponsored extracurricular activities by the College Administration. It is a platform which gives support to Medical students to let out and promote their hobbies, talents and skills for an All round development while they are in College. MedLit Society organizes events, workshops and webinars as a way to connect with our Alumni and to learn from their experiences and mistakes; Monthly Quizzes and competitions also keeps things spiced up and students can enjoy and learn from the new experiences while taking part in them. These events are really essential because the different social-cultural-economic backgrounds of the medical students create barriers and the MedLit Society events act as icebreakers among students of a batch and also with their seniors and juniors.
